Rivix, LLC is a software development company founded in 1998. Our flagship product is RiverTools, a user-friendly, point-and-click GIS environment for digital terrain analysis as it relates to surface hydrology. Prior to May 2003, RiverTools was sold and supported exclusively by Research Systems, Inc. (RSI), the makers of IDL (Interactive Data Language), and Rivix was paid royalties. Now, Rivix is the sole distributor of RiverTools and you can purchase the software and technical support online directly from us. We also offer limited consulting services.
Rivix is dedicated to bringing you reliable, user-friendly tools for terrain analysis and hydrologic modeling. RiverTools has many innovations that you will not find in other GIS software, because unlike other GIS programs it was born for the purpose of making measurements. A good example is the robust manner in which RiverTools calculates more accurate basin areas, slopes and channel lengths on the ellipsoid model of your choice without first projecting to 2D.
Algorithms in the field of digital surface hydrology are evolving rapidly, (e.g. the D8 algorithm was first published in 1988 and the D-Infinity algorithm in 1997!) and we make every effort to incorporate the latest advances into RiverTools. We pioneered the new Mass Flux algorithm for accurately computing flow paths, total contributing area and specific area in 2003. In August 2004, our offices moved to Broomfield, Colorado in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Please send all correspondence to the following address.
